About me

Hi! My name is Jade Schoonerman

I am an artist based out of beautiful Upstate NY

My passion for creativity was instilled in me as young as I can remember. As a child I was always drawing, coloring, writing, or playing with toy musical instruments. In Kindergarten, I was the kid with the 'best handwriting'. In 5th grade, my teacher commissioned me to draw her house from a photograph. In middle school, my artwork was featured in the yearbooks. In high school, I explored music and played the upright bass in both jazz and symphonic bands. I believe art is my innate talent and I'm proudly a self-taught artist.

 

I create photorealistic pet portraits as well as abstract swirl art. My artwork is highly detailed in order to capture the essence of a photo on paper using colored pencils.

I discovered my talent for drawing animals only a couple years ago. I was working as a restaurant server and had just moved into my first apartment. My boss at the time was kind enough to donate several pieces of furniture to me. The gesture was so meaningful and I wanted to find a special way to say 'thank you'. My boss happened to also be a goat farmer so I thought it would be funny to attempt a drawing of one of her pet goats.

My first pet portrait was of a Pygmy goat wearing rain boots named Pippin.

The drawing got so much attention from friends and family and showed me that I was on to something. I then went on to draw my own dog and my family member's pets. Since then, I've begun to take commissioned requests. I've found pet portraits to be my true life passion.

I currently reside in the Finger Lakes Region with two fur babies, Zayla and Prim.
